BOTULİNUM TOKSİNİ (BOTOKS)

Botulinum Toxin is a popular method used to correct wrinkles and facial contours due to facial expressions. According to the data of the US Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), it is the most frequently applied cosmetic procedure in recent years.

Botulinum Toxin is used for erasing horizontal lines on the forehead, vertical lines between the two eyebrows, and horizontal lines around the eyes (crow's feet), for eyebrow lifting and removing lines on the nose, vertical lines on the lips, lines and vertical bands on the neck, and low lip corners, to clarify the contour of the chin and neck, to relieve neck pain by relaxing the muscles (trapeze) in the back area and to improve the neck contour. It can also be used to shrink the overgrown chin muscles (masseter) around the chin.

Applying Botox only to the upper part of the face may create inconsistency in people with loose skin in the chin area. In these cases, it would be appropriate to apply botox to the chin-neck area along with the entire face. Thus, slight sagging on the neck and chin edges can be corrected and a more harmonious result is obtained on the face. With this technique called Nefertiti lift, botox is injected into the entire face and neck, that is, some muscles that cause wrinkles that increase sagging and pulling down, and the already loose and sagging skin structures are prevented from sagging even more due to these muscles. However, it is ineffective for moderate and advanced skin sagging on the lower face, and in these cases, technological device treatments/facelift are recommended.

Its effect starts between 3 and 7 days after application. The duration of this effect is 3-6 months in the treatment of facial wrinkles and 8-12 months in the treatment of excessive sweating. In long-term use, it does not cause any weakness in the muscles. On the contrary, it delays the effects of aging as it prevents muscle contractions.

There may be a slight redness and ecchymosis (bruise) after the toxin application. A short-term drooping of the eyelid (4 to 6 weeks) may occur, albeit very rarely.

The toxin remains limited in the area where it is used, is applied locally, is not distributed throughout the body, does not affect any internal organs, does not have a systemic side effect. Botulinum toxin, which was approved for aesthetic use by the FDA (American Drug Research Administration) in 2002 in the USA, has been widely used for more than 15 years all over the world.
